Registration of Minors

Passing down Italian citizenship to future generations is an invaluable legacy, offering children access to global opportunities, European education, and a lifelong connection to their heritage. Through the formal process of minor child registration, children of Italian citizens can be officially recognized as Italian citizens by the Italian Consulate. Under current legislation, the Italian government has established a specific registration window for this process, with a final deadline set for May 31st, 2029. Because navigating consular requirements within this timeframe requires precise document compliance, understanding the required steps is essential for eligible families. Our dedicated service is designed to streamline this entire process for families, ensuring all documentation is flawlessly prepared and every procedural step is clearly defined.

Below is an overview of the procedure required to register a minor child for Italian citizenship and how our team assists you through each phase of the consular process.

Scheduling the Appointment

The first step involves instructing you on how to schedule the appointment through the Italian consulate closest to where you have your legal residence. Due to the fixed legislative deadline, securing a timeline early is a priority.

Preparing the Documents

Once the process begins, we guide you through the document preparation phase and assist with gathering all required materials, including:

Child’s Birth Certificate

Assisting you in obtaining a long-form (extended) birth certificate for your child.

Italian Parent’s Records

We manage the direct retrieval and collection of certified copies of the Italian parent’s certificates issued by authorities in Italy, while providing comprehensive assistance and guidance for obtaining any necessary documents issued outside of Italy

Apostilles & Translations

Providing instructions to get an Apostille on the child’s birth certificate and to legalize all relevant documents, including professional translation into Italian.

Identification

Gathering copies of both parents’ valid passports.

Child’s Identification

If applicable, including the child’s passport as well (especially if they already hold another citizenship).

Booking the Appointment

After the documents are fully prepared and verified against current consular guidelines, we will assist you with booking the registration appointment with the specific consulate where you will be applying.

Attending the Appointment

The final step requires attending the appointment in person, where both parents and the minor must be present. At that time, you will submit the required document portfolio and pay any applicable consular fees directly to the consulate.

Alternative Pathways: Judicial Proceedings

Consular appointment availability can vary significantly depending on the jurisdiction. In the event that a consular appointment cannot ultimately be secured within the required timeframe, we are also able to pivot and evaluate judicial proceeding options through the Italian court system where applicable.
